Press Release

-From the desk of the Candidate-

Saturday, February 9, 2008

Congressional appetites for pork were protected this week with a vote to block House Resolution 263 and a moratorium on Congressional earmarks. Earmarks typically fund special interests and serve to reward voting loyalty by members of congress and constituents at home. N.C. District 11 Republican Congressional candidate Carl Mumpower describes earmarks as “a community welfare program that distracts our leaders from real issues and robs the American taxpayer through a rigged political lottery”.

“Republicans in recent years have done no better than Democrats in robbing the treasury through earmarks,” said Mumpower. Still, true Republicans have a long history of being more careful with other people’s money and are capable of getting back to their historic values. The Democrat party is all about big government spending and they will never be able to restrain their spending habits. The Dems quickly abandoned last year’s election promise to cut spending and, instead, are proving true to their nature in feeding a fast growing 9 trillion dollar national debt. Congressman Shuler, by voting against the moratorium, continues to join his Blue Dog colleagues in speaking conservative at home and voting liberal in Washington.”
