John McCain took another step toward the Republican Presidential
nomination with his 5 point victory over Mitt Romney in Florida’s Tuesday
primary. On the Democrat side, Hillary
Clinton won with 50 percent of the votes over Barrack Obama’s 33
percent. Having failed to gain
traction with the voters, Rudy Giuliani and John Edwards have both announced
plans to withdraw from the race.
11th District Republican Congressional candidate Carl
Mumpower has expressed discouragement with the absence of “authentic
conservatives” running in either party.
“We have candidates who pretend to be conservative, candidates who
have had a recent conservative conversion, and candidates who can talk
conservative,” said Mumpower. “But
when you look at what really counts – voting records – there is not a real conservative
in the bunch. It’s even worse on the
Democrat side where we have a full slate of candidates pretending to be
moderate who are actually, per their voting record, secular socialists.”
“The abysmal performance record of Congress, the President’s glossy
State of the Union Address, and the liberal slate of presidential contenders
leave little hope for salvation from Washington,” said Mumpower. The solutions to our national ills are
going to have to come from people at the local level, from both parties, finding
their courage button. In the mean
time, for conservatives, it is looking more and more like another
Presidential election that has us holding our nose.”
