Press Release/Position Statement
-From the desk of the Candidate-
According to 11th District Republican Congressional
candidate Carl Mumpower, Washington leaders in both parties are ignoring dark
clouds on America’s horizon. “Our
current national debt is quickly moving toward 10 trillion dollars, much of
which is in the hands of China and other countries with a strong history of
self service,” says Mumpower. “Our
President and members of Congress carry responsibility for that debt record,
but it’s only a small piece of the bigger problem.” According to David Walker, the comptroller
general of the United States and the nation’s top auditor, “America is broke”. Walker has repeatedly warned that America has
a current budget shortfall of 50 trillion dollars when promised social
security, Medicare, and other government entitlement programs are included.
“When one recognizes that the Federal budget is 2.4 trillion dollars and
our total gross national product is 13.5 trillion – the impact of 50 trillion in
debt becomes clearer,” noted Mumpower. “Add
the fact that baby boomers are just entering social security eligibility and
Washington has robbed the social security bank, and disaster lurks over the
horizon.”
Mumpower identified a number of solutions, beginning with the belief that
this “800 pound gorilla be put on America’s stage instead of hidden in the
basement.” “When we all begin to
understand what we are up against, we can become a part of the solution.” “Americans are capable of overcoming any
obstacle once we know the realities and urgencies attached,” said
Mumpower. “Somewhere between paralyzing fear and
indifference is a point of action calling for accountability by our leaders and
fair measures of sacrifice by the rest of us.”
“Nothing is going to happen until our leaders do what they are supposed
to do – demonstrate courage, honesty, and maturity in addressing what matters
over what’s easy.”
