Press Release/Position Statement
America received a holiday turkey with
“made in China” attached when the Kitty Hawk and two distressed mine sweepers
were recently denied port of call access to Hong Kong harbor. US Naval authorities expressed confusion at
the actions of the Chinese government, while some attached the incidence to the
recent Congressional Gold Medal given to the Dali Lama by President Bush. Prior to the event China had warned the US
was interfering in their internal affairs and that consequences would follow.
11th District Republican Congressional candidate Carl Mumpower
noted the incidence as the “fin of a shark alerting us to deeper dangers.” “China’s persisting policies of me first and
everyone else later are typically met by our administration with shuffling feet
and little more.” “There is no need to
start rattling sabers”, said Mumpower, “but predatory governments take appeasement
policies as a license to bully and China clearly has a predatory government at
the helm.”
Mumpower further noted that , “An unsustainable trade imbalance, China’s manipulation of their currency, one sided
trade policies, and our funding of the modernization of their military are
hidden costs behind the inexpensive consumer goods we receive in return.” “America’s future should not be mortgaged so
cheaply, and the mistreatment of our sailors deserves more than hand wringing
and a sound bite on the evening news.”
“It’s a small personal gesture, but I am going to put China in the
cupboard for the next week”, shared Mumpower.
“For one week I am not going to buy anything with made in China attached and invite others in Western North Carolina
to pick their own week for action.” “In
that everything in America seems to be made in China these days, we’ll save a bunch
of our devalued dollars.”

written by the candidate.)
