Asheville City Councilman and candidate for the 11^th District Congressional seat, Carl Mumpower, has accused the Henderson County Blue Ribbon Committee on Illegal Immigration of “conspiring to nourish illegal aliens and the businesses who fund them”. Citing specific references in their final report “absolving businesses of accountability”, Mumpower stated that “WNC businesses that knowingly employ illegal immigrants are the number one source of the mass migration that has occurred – the flood of immigrants can clearly be tracked to the attraction of money and jobs and little else.” “By giving businesses a pass, this Blue Ribbon Committee pandered to the special interests of those addicted to a cheap labor pool and insured that wages are kept artificially low for our own citizens.” “This is the greatest law breaking scheme in our history, and I am fascinated that such a distinguished group of citizens would end up with a report that absolves the ones most responsible for this mass migration.” Shifting the accountability to a Washington bureaucracy we do not control while ignoring the businesses that we do control is the height of duplicity and self-service” shared Mumpower. “It will be interesting to see if Henderson County’s local governments embrace the charade.” Mumpower identifies public illumination and fines for employees as the number one key to stopping the mass influx of illegal immigration and creating the momentum that will reverse the trend. “Let’s fix the leak in the boat first – then we can talk about repairing the motor.”
