Mexican Consulate Visit and Voter Fraud Have Much In Common
July 1, 2008
11th District GOP Congressional candidate Carl Mumpower and about 35 fellow protestors rose with the roosters on Saturday to challenge a visit to Henderson County by the Mexican Consulate staff. "We did what we intended to do, and I am proud of the patriots who took time to illuminate this charade," said Mumpower.
The Consulate staff arrived in a convoy of a half dozen cars and SUV's with the intended purpose of providing services to 400 preregistered Latinos seeking I.D., passports, and other assistance. "I am disturbed with the service model of the Mexican government," said Mumpower. "Try getting that kind of enthusiastic support from our government." "If the Mexican government is so well financed and efficient, why are so many of their people running away?"
"Two of Mexico's major exports are people and drugs," noted Mumpower. "This Consulate staff visit was obviously dedicated to supporting at least one of those agendas." "The thin cover of legal activity, like passports for children of Mexican citizens born here, poorly conceals other efforts to enable Mexican citizens to remain in America."
Mumpower has additional concerns on the U.S. Government's complacency on illegal immigration that he describes as "a form of cultural terrorism". "The next natural step for illegal aliens and their supporters is to get them voting and get them amnesty," said Mumpower. "North Carolina makes it easy to cheat on voter registration through a self-report procedure." "Sure it is a felony to provide false information, but enforcement is a sham. All you have to do is say you do not have a driver's license or social security number and pledge your identity and you are in the system. If a person will come across the border illegally; work a job under the table or with fake I.D.; and milk the medical and social service system to personal advantage, does anyone really believe they would not fake a voter registration?"
"We have a flood of people coming across our border to use America," shares Mumpower. They are being helped by a well financed Consulate machine, employers, and other enablers in our communities held unaccountable by a paralyzed U.S. government." "I will take the risks and ridicule that come with fighting back - this conspiracy of forces should not go unchallenged. An open border, like an open wound, is a recipe for disaster."

Mexican Government Must Not Respect Our Leaders
June 27, 2008
The Saturday morning protest is coming together. We have 60 flags and posters for participants and will get more if needed. It's early, but this protest is the right thing, at the right time, and at the right place. Please join us at 6:15 am at our Asheville One Oak Plaza campaign headquarters or 7:00 at the Upward Road Cracker Barrel in Hendersonville. We will head to the campus from there for peaceful and enthusiastic demonstration of our concerns.
A couple of points-
1) The Mexican government must not respect our leaders or they would not have even thought of taking this action.
2) One wonders which local, state, and national leaders knew about this event in advance and took no action.
3) I am serious when I say I will not abide any harmful activities in the llth District without raising a hand of protest - regardless of the political prices attached.

Mexican Consulate Visit to be Protested
An anticipated Friday and Saturday visit by the Mexican Consulate to the Blue Ridge Community campus in Hendersonville is subject to protest according to a spokesman for the Mumpower for Congress Committee. The visit is being sponsored by the Latino Advocacy Coalition of Henderson County, who have rented space at the campus for those interested in receiving a "Consular Matricula" I.D. card from the Mexican Embassy. According to Lee Anna Haney, a spokesperson for the college, North Carolina is one of the few states that recognize the Consular Matricula I.D. card as a valid form of identification to obtain a state driver's license.
Ron Woodard of North Carolina Listen, a non-profit group targeting illegal immigration issues, has shared concerns with the school that the consular I.D.'s make it easier to remain in America illegally. "It also appears that this event is to assist illegal immigrants in general with recommendations and other information," said Woodard.
A request by North Carolina Listen to monitor the event was declined by the Blue Ridge College administration. "As to your group's desire to "monitor" this event that request is denied," said Ms. Haney. "The College is not the equivalent of a public park. Use of College facilities must comply with our facilities use policy and groups or individuals may not come on campus to monitor other groups."
The office of 11th District Republican Congressional candidate Carl Mumpower has announced a planned protest of the event. Those interested are invited to meet at the Mumpower for Congress campaign office at Suite 310, One Oak Plaza, in Asheville at 6:15 am for the trip to Hendersonville. There will be a follow-up breakfast gathering at the Upward Road Cracker Barrel at 7:00 with the protest beginning sometime around 8:00 that morning on or about Blue Ridge Community College.
"This activity on a tax supported college campus illustrates our government's paralysis on illegal immigration; the audacity and double standard of the Mexican government; and the indulgences of those who conspire to appease, support, and otherwise benefit from illegal immigration," said Mumpower.
"Illegal immigration is the greatest law breaking scheme in America's history and it is past time for our politicians to be more concerned with enforcing the rule of law and protecting America's borders than shielding their dignity and getting reelected." "This protest has nothing to do with Latinos, immigration, racism or any of the other decoy issues that conspirators use to distract Americans from action. It is simply about one word - illegal."
Mumpower has been encouraged by supporters and advisors to offer a position statement but otherwise avoid the event. "Concern for image and political correctness has kidnapped accountability and action in America - I have no interest in continuing that theme with my own version of political cowardliness," said Mumpower. "With our staff and resources, we are in a better position than about anyone in WNC to organize a responsible protest of this event." "No doubt we will run into hurdles, but we will do what we can and leave the rest in the hands of higher authority."

Chalk One Up for the Constitution
June 26, 2008
American's right to own guns for self-defense received strong support today from the U.S. Supreme Court. On a 5-4 vote, the majority struck down the District of Columbia's 32-year-old ban on handguns as an unconstitutional intrusion on the Second Amendment. This is the first conclusive interpretation of that amendment since its ratification in 1791 - an action representing a solid victory for gun rights advocates.
11th District GOP Congressional candidate Carl Mumpower heralded the vote. "For those who value the Constitution and the Second Amendment, this is a great day," said Mumpower. "I do not believe that law abiding citizens should be at the mercy of social predators - whether those predators are criminals or government officials side-stepping our rights."
The specific language of the amendment reads: "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."
Dissenting Justice Stephen Breyer wrote, "In my view, there simply is no untouchable constitutional right guaranteed by the Second Amendment to keep loaded handguns in the house in crime-ridden urban areas."
"Justice Breyer's opinion and his willingness to ignore the clarity of 'shall not be infringed' is typical to the effort of the liberal left to take black and white out of the Constitution and our culture's social conscience," noted Mumpower. "I ask myself why the founding fathers, with their evident wisdom, would in any way not want citizens to be able to protect themselves with loaded handguns in the house in crime-ridden urban areas."
"Chalk one up for the Constitution," said Mumpower. "Some people do not like guns - most people I know do like liberty and that word is at the heart of this victory."

Swain County Settlement is a Scam to Nowhere
June 24, 2008
11th District GOP Congressional nominee Carl Mumpower is not known for treading softly on the issues. His opinion on the Swain County "Road to Nowhere" settlement is no exception. "The people of Swain County and Western North Carolina are being scammed by our politicians," said Mumpower. "This is a penny on the dollar deal that has the Federal government going back on its word and public officials selling out to special interests."
Congressman Heath Shuler has worked with Tennessee Republican Senator Lamar Alexander and other state and local officials to craft a settlement promise of 52 million dollars in exchange for the promised North Shore Road. North Carolina legislators have approved a bill awaiting the Governor's signature that establishes a trust fund to manage the six million dollar down payment on pledges of future payment.
"Representative Shuler, Senator Snow, Representative Haire, Swain County Commissioners and others are selling out their constituents," said Mumpower. "Fifty-two million seems like a lot of money, but for comparison it represents less than half of the annual operating budget of just one city, Asheville, in WNC." "That is a cheap exchange for a lifetime of lost opportunity."
Proponents of the North Shore Road point to the importance of keeping one's word, providing long delayed access for the descendents of those transplanted, and the economic engine that the road could represent. "Right now Tennessee is eating our lunch on tourism - those with a history in our area have watched the tourism resource explosion in Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, and Cade's Cove, while most of WNC has stagnated or regressed," notes Mumpower. "We are not jealous of their success, but we should not be passive with efforts, such as this settlement, which rob the more rural counties of their potentials."
"Outsiders are quick to applaud the deal's preservation of pristine wilderness in a county where 85% of the land is owned by government," said Mumpower. "Environmental advocates, the TVA, and Park Service all have their own interests in this broken promise." "Those agendas and our own leaders are bullying residents trying to make a living and bridge their children to a future of hope and opportunity." "Fifty-two million is chicken feed in this equation of political shame."
