11th District candidate for Health Shulers Congressional seat, Carl Mumpower, has applauded President Bushs veto of the State Childrens Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) bill. "I wish that the President had showed the same courage with illegal immigration that he has demonstrated in saying no to this bloated health plan that offers our kids and grandkids an aspirin today and a big bill tomorrow."
"This is another example of Congress dodging the bigger responsibility of fixing our health care system, and looking for back doors means to getting a foot in the door on socialized medicine." Mumpower noted a belief that there are solutions to our health care issues, but that those would not be found in "duplicating the errors of other countries and a new medical welfare system that makes people smaller and government bigger."
"Capitol Hill continues !
to creat
e programs that we will not be able to afford going forward", said Mumpower, "The average American family is already annually contributing $24,000 per household to Washington and with each entitlement program, either our tax bill or $8.8 trillion dollar national debt walks closer to the edge of the cliff."
"Congress will fight hard to override President Bush's heartless veto," vowed Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada." Mumpower responded by concluding, "Weve seen and condemned terrorists for using children as shields for their special agendas - Speaker Pelosi, Senate Leader Reid, and the unrealistic left are modeling the same behavior in more deceptive form."
