President Bushs nomination of Michael Mukasey for Attorney General has prompted a reaction from 11th District Republican candidate Carl Mumpower. Pointing to the 28 million that was spent on protecting the former District Court Judge, Mumpower stated, "I am disappointed that in a country full of principled capable people, the President would nominate someone so obviously willing to take personal advantage of the system." For nine years following the trial of high profile terrorist Omar Abdel-Rahyman, Mukasey received round the clock U.S. Marshall protection that was withdrawn after deputy marshals filed grievances accusing Mukasey and his wife of using them for valet-like chores. "There are always deeper truths, but in the face of the host of Americans, at home and abroad, facing far greater dangers - to spend $10,000 of tax payer money a day for that period of time speaks to attitudes of entitlement no different than that of a professional welfare mother milking the system." Mumpower completed his criticism by offering, "I am not sure what is more dist!
urbing,
that this behavior would be overlooked in the Presidents review of potential nominees or that Washingtons bureaucracy would let Mukesay get by with it for so long."
