Republican Congressional candidate Carl Mumpower has taken a firm position that his campaign will earn and not purchase a seat in Congress. The candidate has refused all PAC, special interest, party, and union money - funds that represent over 90% of Heath Shuler's campaign receipts.
"Nancy Pelosi gave my "blue dog" opponent $28,000 in personal and PAC contributions," said Mumpower. "His party has given him another million and a half. He has received money from a host of his colleagues in the House of Representatives, along with checks from unions and about every business PAC you can think of. Anyone who believes that this money comes for free may not understand the "Buy America Plan" that guides the relationship between special interests and Congressman like Heath Shuler. Most all of his money comes from outside the District."
Mumpower is running a unique Congressional campaign, using an all volunteer staff and a persistent focus on putting principles first to compete with Shuler's dollars and incumbent status. "I want the people of WNC to know who I am, where I stand on the issues, and the fact they can count on me to stand firmly to my word and conservative principles," said Mumpower. "We will win or lose by working hard and campaigning aggressively all over the District. If we do win, we will go to Washington with the independence to illuminate and fight the waste, corruption, and paralysis that is robbing America's future."
"Folks inside Shuler's campaign have told us that my opponent is going to dodge debates on the issues and principles involved in this election," said Mumpower. "He plans to use imported personalities and money to distract the voters from his real voting record. We will see if he gets away with it - in the mean time I will continue to wear out my shoes and tires all over WNC.
Mumpower will be holding Town Hall meetings next week at three locations in WNC - Polk, McDowell, and Henderson Counties. Dates, times, and locations include-
