North Carolina Republican Congressional candidate Carl Mumpower is back in the ring with opponent Heath Shuler. Following the successful commitment of a majority of his District's counties to his 'Principles First' campaign, the candidate says he has the foundation needed to set his sights on the man he views as a "liberal in a conservative costume".
"Republican leadership of the 11th District has made a commitment to our Party's core principles and holding our elected officials accountable to those principles," said Mumpower. "Their courageous action has restored voter credibility for all of our candidates," said Mumpower.
The maverick City Councilman from Asheville notes that he is gratified by the support he has received from WNC GOP officials, but he doesn't want to stop there. "Now that 11th District Republicans have a message that people can count on, I would like to see if we can recruit other Districts in North Carolina to join us," noted Mumpower. "When we get the majority of North Carolina on board then, what the heck, let's see if we can tackle the rest of the country. I want America to know that the Republican Party is authentically back and on the right track and that we have a system in place to make sure we do not betray our principles or our promises."

11th District County Chairs Respond to 'Principles First' Campaign
"If we want to elect principled Republicans to represent us, then we need to know and remember what our principles are. If our elected officials are not principled, it is because we have allowed them to be so." Tim Johnson, Buncombe County Chair
"Mumpower's move is a continuation of what he's already been talking about in the primary - principles before politics. This sends a message that the Republican Party is serious about honesty, integrity, and accountability of all candidates and holders of public office." Mike Clampitt, Swain County Party Chair
The chairman of the Henderson County Republican Party termed the suspension "a good idea" and a chance for the party to unite and refocus. It shouldn't tick anybody off, because these are the principles of the party." Robert Danos, Henderson County
"We are grateful to Dr. Mumpower for his dedication to our Republican principles. We are eager to continue to let our elected officials know exactly what we expect them to support." Pat Margo, Clay County Party Chair
"Mumpower deserves praise for being a principled candidate. He should be a measuring stick by which we measure ourselves." Mike Hager, Rutherford County Chair
"Thanks for your 'Principles First" campaign. Transylvania Republicans believe our elected officials must be accountable and our individual members must expect our officials to make decisions using our principles as a framework for making responsible decisions." Ray Miller, Transylvania Party Chair
"The Republican Party in McDowell County is glad to support this effort - I am personally pleased to see us getting back to what we are really about. We are going to start reading our Party's principles before our meetings." Vance Caudle, McDowell County Party Chair
"Macon County Republicans (including most of the executive committee) met tonight and unanimously endorsed the GOP Principals attached --- please assure Dr. Mumpower that he continues to have our full support." Gary Dills, Macon County Party Chair
