In answer to a challenge by GOP Congressional Candidate Carl Mumpower, Henderson County Republican Chair Robert Danos has confirmed his county's support for the candidate's 'Principle First' campaign. Henderson County is the third of 15 counties to commit to Mumpower's efforts to unite the 11th District of North Carolina behind the party's core principles.
Mumpower has suspended his campaign until a majority of the county parties affirm a rededication to the core Republican principles and establish their own procedure for holding local, state, and national leaders accountable to those principles. This unusual strategy was rewarded with a vote of support by the District Executive committee on Monday evening encouraging the counties of the 11th District to join with Mumpower on the 'Principles First' campaign.
"People have lost faith in the Republican Party because we have allowed power, political correctness, and other pressures to trump our core principles," said Mumpower. "It is important that the people of WNC and the country know that the word 'Republican' stands for something besides special interest politics as usual. The national transformation back to being a party of principle might as well begin right here in the mountains of North Carolina."
"I am grateful for Chairman Danos and the Party leadership of Buncombe, Swain, and Henderson Counties for asserting their position that principles matter," said Mumpower. "I am confident that a supermajority of the other counties in the District share common values that will bring us together stronger than ever."
