~From the desk of the Candidate~
Press Release
Wednesday, May 27, 2008
According to the 11th
District Republican Congressional Candidate, the popular Mountain Landscapes
regional planners are "predators masquerading as sheepdogs".
"No matter how nice the name, this initiative is designed to homogenize
WNC, curtail private property rights, and seduce planning authority from local
governments," said Mumpower.
"The Fifth Amendment to the Constitution is very clear
about taking private property rights - if you want it you have to pay for
it," noted Mumpower. "What we have in America today are a large
group of closet socialist hiding behind terms like planning, community,
affordable housing, preservation and open space as a means to taking other
people's property without fair compensation." "If I stop you
from developing your property, then I have assumed essential control.
Local governments can turn WNC into Disney Land as far as I am concerned, but
only if they are willing to do it in the open and pay for the privilege.
Stealing is stealing not matter what kind of mask you wear or where you hide
the gun."
"It is interesting that the same people who are big
into regulation, central control, and taking private property rights also talk
about affordable housing," said Mumpower. "Everything says that
the more government control, rules, and planning you have, the more expensive
things like housing become." "Those who want to save us from
ourselves come with a smile and a promise - but they are less interested in
mowing our lawn than owning it."
