President Bush, like Congress, continues to
face abysmal approval ratings by the American people. Much of the
criticism is partisan - coming from Democrats and liberal minded voters who
find entertainment in Bush bashing. 11th District
Congressional Candidate Carl Mumpower is neither a Democrat nor a liberal,
but on some issues, he agrees with the critiques of the President's actions.
"I am not interested in criticism for
its own sake - I am interested in accountability," said Mumpower.
"Nowhere is the President more vulnerable to challenge than in his
failure to uphold the laws on illegal immigration that are designed to protect
our borders." "He has added insult to injury by, in turn,
also refusing to protect the border guards who are trying."
"Border agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose
Compean have remained in prison awaiting a decision on their December
conviction appeal - six months on an appeal makes a mockery of the word
justice," shares Mumpower. "The permissiveness that is
applied to those who illegally cross our borders, those who support them, and
the biggest criminals, those who provide the jobs and money that feed the
surge, is evident by the President," said Mumpower. "These
agents deserve the fullest benefits of an American court system that is
supposed to be coached in timely and fair justice." "Instead
they are languishing in prison while Congress pretends and the President ignores
- I believe the wrong perpetrators are behind bars."
"Much has been said about the need to
impeach the President," notes Mumpower. "That's a big word
that is tossed about casually in reference to the President's handling of
Iraq and domestic surveillance." "For me, the President's
greatest vulnerability lies in his failure to uphold his oath of office and
the laws on illegal immigration. "Nothing - including our war in
Iraq - remotely compares to the harm that has come out of his refusal to
enforce existing immigration law as the nation's chief executive. In
that respect he has betrayed the futures of our children and grandchildren in
a manner that is truly criminal. I intend to continue challenging
illegal immigration and those who support and fund the migration - even if
one of those supporters happens to be the President of the United
States."
