~From the desk of the Candidate~
Press Release
Tuesday, April 22, 2008
Fixing
illegal immigration has more to do with motivation than complexity, according
to one 11th District Republican Congressional Candidate.
"Congress, the media, and illegal immigration supporters obfuscate
solutions as a means to evading action," says Asheville City Councilman
Carl Mumpower. "This is the greatest law breaking scheme in
America's history - supported by greed, self-service, complacency, and
intellectual dishonesty."
"Throughout
WNC we have industries, small businesses, and construction sites that routinely
hire non-English speaking people without screening their legal status,"
said Mumpower. "It is a felony to use a fake social security
card or other identification, but it happens all the time with little or no
accountability - even for those who break other laws." "Illegal
immigrants, those who employ them, and their supporters get away with things
that real citizens cannot and that would never be tolerated in Mexico."
So
what are the solutions? According to Mumpower it comes down to three
words - "enforcing existing laws". "No matter how much
people wring their hands; this is where the action is." "Until
we, as a country, get serious about enforcing our laws, making new ones and
building fences will find us continuing to spin our wheels until it is too
late." "A secure border to border fence would have to be built
like the Berlin Wall to work, and I don't see America putting mine fields and
tower guards with sniper rifles between us and Mexico." There are
places that a fence can help - a lot - but if you leave the bait out - jobs
made available by those employ illegal aliens - the whole thing becomes a
sham."
"I
look forward to illuminating the nonsense in Washington and taking on the
appeasement artists who put out decoys to distract us from what really
matters," said Mumpower. "The most effective fence is
consequence."
