~From the desk of the Candidate~
Press Release
Wednesday, April 16, 2008
Republican
Congressional Candidate Carl Mumpower has decisively won 6 of the 8 formal
Republican straw polls across the 11th District. The remaining
candidates have been successful in just one poll in their home counties. Mumpower
believes his lead is frustrating his competitors and stimulating tactics of
desperation typical to political campaigns, but "unbecoming to men who say
they want to represent the values of the 11th District".
"When you are in the lead by objective measures, you can expect personal
attacks and desperation tactics from your competitors," said Mumpower.
Spence Campbell, a businessman from
Henderson County has no prior experience in elected office. "Spence went
along with a last minute rule change in Flat Rock prohibiting signs at that
campaign event, but he is willing to break the law to put them everywhere else
in WNC," said Mumpower. "This candidate has hired staff to
place his campaign signs on highways and public right of ways when he knows
that is against the law." "If you are willing to knowingly bend
the rules to get elected, you will not be able to withstand the pressures in
Washington to abandon principles for power and prestige."
John
Armor spent the majority of his professional career as an attorney serving as a
part of the very Washington system so many of us find corrupt.
"Contrary to the rhetoric, John has never argued a single case before the
Supreme Court," noted Mumpower. "He's filed briefs on behalf of
non-profit agencies that employed him - something that any attorney with a few
references and a little experience can do." "The desperation in
John's campaign comes through in his willingness to intentionally twist the truth.
John, like many attorneys, can take an ounce of grass and create a pound of
manure out of it. Everyone that thinks we need another unprincipled
attorney in Washington should certainly vote for John in the primary."
"Unlike
my colleagues, I am not willing to lie, knowingly violate the law, pander to
voters, or resort to desperation tactics to win," noted Mumpower.
"I will win or lose based on clear commitments, a strong record of public
service as an authentic conservative, and a dedication to principles.
" "I have been elected and reelected in the biggest city in WNC
and appointed as Vice-Mayor by my peers in spite of my consistent stand on
conservative principles. No matter the spin folks might hear about
arrogance, an inability to work with people, or other such nonsense, I have
been in the arena fighting the fight and been supported by Republicans,
Democrats, and Independents who know I will stand up for what is right. I
have done it in Asheville and I will do it in Washington - the other guys know
that and, frankly, should feel desperate."
