~Mumpower for Congress Committee~
Press Release
Friday, March 21, 2008
Downturns
in the economy have revealed Republicans reacting like Franklin Roosevelt's
"New Dealers" in their support of an economic "stimulus"
package, according to 11th District Republican Congressional Candidate
Carl Mumpower. "We expect Democrat politicians to spend our money, but
I'm disappointed that members of my own party are just as quick to jump on the
big-government bandwagon only this time with billions borrowed from
China."
Mumpower
believes, too, that an anticipated bail-out of the irresponsible lenders and
real-estate speculators hurt by the sub-prime loan crisis would have put a
smile on the face of Roosevelt, a Democrat known for his belief economic
solutions through the creation of government programs. "It didn't work then and it won't work
now," said Mumpower.
"Both
parties in Washington continue to embrace 'community welfare' in the form of
earmarks for their districts and 'corporate welfare' in the form of bail-out
deals that are side-stepping the accountability that should go with a
free-market economy, he said. The same
voices in the business community who have been clamoring, rightfully, for less
government bureaucracy and regulation are now crying to be saved from their own
greed and irresponsibility. These
guys are just corporate 'welfare mothers' in suits turning their bad business
decisions into yet another opportunity to reach into taxpayer pockets."
"The
parade of special interest deals is just beginning," said Mumpower.
"Democrats are about to increase our taxes at the same time they work with
Republicans to rescue businesses who made fantasy home loans to people
with fantasy pocketbooks. The American
taxpayer will feel like 'Alice in Wonderland' before our leaders get done
pandering and pilfering their way to reelection."
"What
I call "The American Success Equation" is founded on three words:
Liberty, Opportunity, and Responsibility," said Mumpower. "Without the accountability found it
that last word, our system will not work. Pretending that we have some magic bucket of
money is the height of irresponsibility. The bill will come due and it is looking more
and more like our children and grandchildren will be handed the
tab."
