Dear
Dr. Mumpower:
Thank you for having the courage of your convictions and
being able to speak out so eloquently against some of the issues and
difficulties that beset us here in western North Carolina. Judging
from the responses to your recent statements re: Cherokee, you have certainly
shaken the proverbial hornet's nest. Be brave - for every "global Indian"
wallowing in their wounded sense of political correctness, I would wager there
are twenty of us (white, black, red, brown et al) who enjoy seeing a public
servant speak the truth and take actions based on their own personal moral
compass rather than pander for every possible vote. I've been racking my
brain for a historical example of a recent politician that has displayed your
current level of gumption and basic moral fiber - and I have to go all the
way back to Roosevelt (Teddy and Franklin) or Harry Truman to find a similar
level of fearlessness. I look forward to your future activities and
I thank you for your bravery.
Regards,
John
Hensley
